flash (macromedia):
No. The local root is the location of the files on your local computer.
Like myComputer/myFlashfiles/myHomePage.
The remote directory is where you put the files when you publish them on
the internet web server.
You have to set this up because the path to a file is how any computer
locates the the file. When you use a local root, Flash knows that the path
is just for you to work with the files on your computer. It removes all
myComputer/myFlashfiles/myHomePage stuff when you upload the files to a web
server. That way, you get the correct path for viewers from the internet.

OK...that's what I thought. So...I set up the local root as a directory on my
local drive, and when I try to check anything in as the last step in setting up
version control, It says 'no flash project file (.flp) in local root...', but I
copied the .flp into the local root, and got the same error. I am an
experienced flash developer, so I am a little miffed at this. This
functionality used to be in Dreamweaver, but it did not work properly. Any
ideas anyone?
bump...no matter what I do, Flash Pro doesn't seem to find my files on the
local root OR the remote server...except for one time by trial and error, I got
checkin/checkout to work...is this buggy behavior, or my network here, or
what????
