alan0628; Not enough information to offer much... Both systems have the same connection? Have you emptied the browser cache before testing? -Tom Unger
alan0628; Assuming that both systems have the same flash player vresion installed, offhand I can't think of any flash specific issue that might cause such a thing,. You may to do some routine step by step troubleshooting of your pc system and possibly your network set-up. Is the issue file specific (do all large flash files show the same results, or just one/some)? Is it flsh format related at all, or do other types of large files also show the same symptom? Is it system specific (do you have access to another pc for testing)? -Tom Unger
alan0628; One thing comes to mind--does the swf actually "take forever" to load on the pc, or does it eventually play? If it never does play, then the most likely problem is an error in the object tag (such as a missing object tag, or an incorrect path to the swf). -Tom Unger
Tom-- Thanks for taking the time to think through this. Some more info-- The swf file contains nothing more than an imported Quicktime movie with audio. I noticed that the compressed swf file was actually much larger than the original Quicktime file. When I used the original Quicktime file instead of the swf file, I got the same resutls -- fast streaming on the MACs and waiting forever on the PC. (They do both eventually play on the PC). I've asked friends to check this out on their configurations and they experience the same results. It works fine with those running OSX and the ones with Windows never did see the swf files play or the Quicktime file play. From what I read, I thought using FLASH would be the ideal solution for cross-platform viewing without having folks download players that may not have. Where have I gone wrong? Alan
BTW -- same result for multiple files each containing different embedded Quicktime movies of different lenghts. If you want to see the results yourself, go to http://mercerstreetpro.com/wip/demos.html Thanks, Alan
alan0628; Just guessing here, but I wonder if it's related to the fact that you are loading "bare" swf files in the pop-ups, rather than embedding them in html. Try using proper object/embed tags for the swf/movies to see if that helps. -Tom Unger
That helped. It loads faster on the PC but still much slower than on the MAC. And it stalls on the PC and has to wait for the stream to catch up. This happens when I use Quicktime mov files also. They run beautifully on the MAC while you grow old waiting for it to play on the PC. Really puzzled. Alan
