Vectorian - new Flash software company

I would like to announce presence of Vectorian. Our goal is to develop wide
range of Flash solutions and establish solid market presence.

Right now, we are developing our proprietary Flash player. It will support
Flash versions up to including version 7. After that, we will develop range of
Flash creation, editing and enhancement tools.

We would like to hear your comments - especially proposals and ideas for Flash
tools.

Regards,
George:)

Why do we need another flash player?

Obviously they believe that they can develop a competetive player at a lower
cost structure than Macromedia and therefore sell it at a lower price and
still generate more margin. Since the Macromedia version is free and the
definition of margin is (list price - cost) / list price - let me just get
my calculator....Can somebody help me figure out how to divide by zero? It's
not working on this darn calculator. Maybe kglad can help - he's good at
math...

Maybe he wants to put 3d into flashplayer? Maybe he wants to recompile the
source to use c++ methods of maths instead of jscript? Maybe he simply wants
to add features based on his sites products to be intergrated into flash player
adding native support int he player for custom content? Good luck with
whatever you do anyway.

Let me clarify: we are developing Flash player as a way of getting handle on
Flash internals - there is no better way to understand Flash file format than
to make a player - and we expect to be able to "recycle" much of the player
source code in our Flash editor and/or other tools.

So we do not plan to sell player below Macromedia's price - this is not 1999,
but 2005 and internet bubble is long gone! :)

I have seen similar products though that enhance flash to bring better games
and 3d support. After having read through the PDF for the Flashplayer
internals I would say its a big task but certainly not a waste of time. Many a
developer I know uses that knowledge to optimise beyond good design and ticking
'compress movie'.

At the moment, we aim to understand and implement Flash-as-is. The trouble with
enhancements to Flash specification is acceptance - if nobody has your
"enhanced" player, nobody can play it no matter how good it is.

I am afraid that Macromedia (ooops, Adobe excuse me) will have to make
enhancements that matter.

Hi!

As I said already, we are making player ONLY in order to learn details of
Flash internals. For example, Macromedia SWF file format specification has
plenty of errors in it - but you would not learn that by learning it alone. We
will NOT sell player, but products made building on our player code.

Thanks for the interest anyhow!
