flash (macromedia):
Where can I download a freestanding Flash player? One used to install with
Dreamweaver, Flash or Director-- but apparently no longer. I have tried to
download through the macromedia site -- but it is only the web plugin and I get
no returns searching the knowledge base. I would like to view Flash animations
offline -- and not within the full Flash program. The Flash player was perfect.
Where can i get one now?

There never was such.
Macromedia did not and does not distribute standalone player for flash.
The publicly available one is browser player and plugin as flash just like javascript
works in browser environment. The standalone is attach only to macromedia flash application
for our design convenience.
You will need to export your work as EXE than flash will wrap the file around the player
miking it able to run outside the browser if you like to share with someone.

There is way of course, you can dig out the player after installation from the macromedia files
folder (somewhere in X:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash MX\Players) but distribution will probably
collide with your user licenses agreement.
It does not expire nor stop working after you uninstall Flash , just copy paste the player**.exe to
some other directory and you can keep it.

It is very easy to get a free standing Flash Player the is freely
distributable.

Start Flash with an empty movie, then publish to exe to make a projector.
Now set that projector as the program to open for SWF files. It is now a
stand-alone player and is freely redistributable because it is a projector
exe (which is just a standalone player combined with a swf .. only in this
case the swf is empty). Projectors (unlike the standalone player on its
own) are freely redistributable .. go figure.

There you go .. just find someone with Flash (or get the free trial
download) and make yourself a player that you can freely distribute.

Thanks, got it! The freestanding Flash player was in the Players
folder/directory. I much prefer previewing Flash documents in this player than
through a Web browser or native application. I am surprised you cannot download
it from the site, but very glad it is in the product install.

That has nothing to do with free standing flash players. Why did you post
that link?

That's only a FLV player isn't it ... not a flash player.

Well , actually, there is a free flv encode and player there (not trial).

There is a free encoder
http://rivavx.de/index.php?encoder&L=3

And a free flv player
http://rivavx.de/index.php?id=422&L=3

So maybe poster was actually trying to help, but didn't realise it was only
an FLV player. I like to think the best of people when I can.
