First, any who read this, When "Murry" answers save the response, Murry is gold

I have a school site.
I want to put up video files on the site. They will be from 30 seconds
(intros, and short topics), all the way up to 15 minute learning segments (a
number of them!).
I am already using screen recorders for swf's in certain instances; but now it
looks like digital video is going to be needed as well.
I have Macromedia Studio MX 2004 Pro, and thanks to "Murry", I have redone the
base website over using Dreamweaver MX 2004.
My Flash MX 2004 skills are still suspect.
I have read a little about Sorenson Squeeze, Flix, and various codec.
I have looked over the info about some players, like "Wimpy".

It appears to me that Flash type FLV's are the way to go, Yes, No?

I saw that Macromedia has a Video Kit for $99 that says you can make use of
FLV funtion, place the files on your site and do it with Dreamweaver.
Is the Video Kit a neccessity?
Could the process be done using just the programs in the Studio MX 2004 Pro
(Flash and dreamweaver), or must you have the Kit, or another codec like
Wildform Flix?

I thought I would post here in hope of someone with a higher skill level than
mine relative to video and the net would give me either some definitive answers
or at least a path to scratch out some spefic answers for myself.
I don't mind spending the $99 for the Macromedia Video Kit, but I would feel
real silly if I found that it really wasn't needed.
Appreciate some direction on the above.
Also if someone has already been involved with a similar project (production
and hosting of video distance learning segments) I would love to know your
solutions (streaming using a hosting service, streaming using your own
site/server, progressive download, etc.)
Thanks,
Steve

I believe the Video Kit is really aimed at those who have DreamWeaver and want
to use FLV, but don't have Flash.

If you have MX04pro you don't need the Video Kit. You would probably want to
either get the free Flash Video Exporter plugin from the MacroMedia site. It
allows you export directly to FLV from a variety of different programs. It
isn't without it's own faults however.

If you plan to do a lot of FLV, I recommend Sorenson Squeeze for Flash which
allows you to create FLVs with a lot of control over the process from a wide
variety of different video source formats. There is a trial version available
which watermarks the output, but you can at least test it to see if it meets
your needs.

I am working on language learning videos (www.saffronthread.com/HindiVideo). I
built this with the Media Display Components that came with MX04pro, but will
be recreating it with the NetConnection and NetStream classes.

Good Luck.

If you have Flashmx2004pro and DW you don't need the video kit.
I bought Squeeze, ver3, for Flash mx and use it for all my FLVs. Works
great.
Using the video object and external FLVs is the way to go IMHO.
I use progressive DL and it seems to work fine on DSL and cable.
