flash (macromedia): **** UPDATE ****

Please try to view in firefox (you may need to refresh a couple of times to
get the error)

****

Hi, this problem is unfortunately jeopardising the inclusion of some flash
applications in our portal site (www.xtramsn.co.nz).

Ok first up, this is not a flash player installation issue or a
System.security issue (I think).

Platform
Windows XP

Firefox version
1.0.4 or if you prefer: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
rv:1.7.8) Gecko/20050511 Firefox/1.0.4

Flash plugin version
7,0,19,0

Error Reported (in a popup dialog box)
Illegal Operation in Plugin
Shockwave Flash
The plugin performed and illegal operation. You are strongly advised to
restart Navigator.

The swf needs to source data from an xml file. I have isolated the problem to
the XML.load() method. ie. when I remove the method the error does not happen,
if I make a button that triggers the method the error occurs when I click the
button.

The error doesn't happen every time... it is a reasonably erratic event, I
need to refresh the page a few times for it to repeat.

There is this too:
The HTML which displays the SWF is at
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xtramsn/odc_testing/0,,11672,00.html
The SWF file is located using this path:
/homepage2/staticImages/flash/map_v6.swf
The XML file is loaded using this path:
/xtramsn/odc_testing/0,,11672-3012790,00.html

Thus two things:
The xml file is suffixed with ".html" as far as my repeated testing can tell
this is not an issue
The xml and html files are in the same folder but the swf file is in another.

Please help! Have I missed something obvious? Is this a known bug?

Thanks for reading
Jez

I too desperately need to know what is causing this problem, we are getting
ready to pull the plug on our Flash apps.

Using phpObject to retrieve data from mySQL database, as well as loadVars from
text files. Using sharedObject as well.

Firefox 1.04
Windows XP SP1, SP2

After much mucking around after my first post I found that the error was only
produced when the data file was being served by Vignette which was performing
some kind of redirect (it apparrently was just outputting some static file
through its system as opposed to generating the file). Thus I'm still no closer
to the cause but...

I rekon its probably Firefox not being so happy with some weird things that
are being sent by Vignette, there have since been newer releases of firefox
which one desperately hopes may be the end of the problem. Though I cant tell
now because I cut Vignette out of the process and thus have no more errors and
no way to investigate the old one anymore.

Hopefully you can upgrade your FireFox to 1.0.6
Good luck!

Upgrading to 1.06 does not eliminate the behavior, most recent version of
plugin as well. I've really scoured the net for a solution -- I think we are
going to have to stop creating apps in Flash for a while until this gets worked
out.
