flash (macromedia) : Flash Detection Kit and Search Engines

Hi,

Does anyone from experience or professional knowledge know how the Flash
Detection kit affects search engine rankings on Google for example please?

Is it best to go for the html version or the flash version and for what
reasons please. I'm currently using the flash version and am wondering if the
html version is the only logical one to use.

Are we supposed to have other links (like back or escape links) in the
detection pages - else the search engines don't like pages with no links other
than flash ones.

My main flash site is on a page with an html link back to my home page but I
fear that the search engine compatibility is getting lost somewhere in between
my homepage and the flash site itself due to any lack of links.

Is there a correct, proven or better way to keep google happy please.

Thanks alot, Have a good one.

ant.

I found something that works well for limited searching.
Use the CSS media property to hide text within the page you have your flash
file.
Within the screen CSS set all the ID/Classes to display:none;
Then format the print CSS to a nice layout for printing.
Check it out here, select: File/Print Preview in your browser.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm simply leaving it alone right now without using a flash detection. Still
building for only 6 or 7, not 8 yet until something better comes along or time
passes and more user will have the 8 plugin.
I trust Windows Vista will ship with the Flash 8 player?
That would be a time I would consider Flash 8 is a good player to build for.

Anyway, Cheers, Grant.

I agree with Sneelock. For an all-Flash Web site, I use CSS to create a <div>
that holds the Flash animation where I want it, centered or full-screen on the
page, and then have hidden text underneath it that gives the important points
of the site. It works great.

Also, the title in the <head> section needs to be correct, representing the
site content.
