flash (macromedia): You can export your fla to a video format such as avi or mov, you then
can convert that video file to a flv.

Is there a way to convert an .fla or .swf to an .flv?

you would have to export the FLA to video , MOV or AVI, than import it back to flash
and from flash you can export to FLV, just open the library CTRL L , select the video
you just imported and , right click - properties - export - FLV

IF you previously exported FLA to MOV you can as well do it from QT player.

I'm having a problem exporting to MOV. I'm using a Mac and have 2 options;
QuickTime and QuickTime Player, both of which give me the following error

The installed version of QuickTime does not have a handler for this type of
Macromedia Flash movie. Please consult the documentation for further
information.

How do I solve this?:confused;

good to know - i always suggest earlier version along with urami - uncheck compress movie does seem
to to work fine.

QT player is always generation or two behind flash so it can't use the latest
file versions to make Mov out of it.
Go to File - Publish Setting - FLASH , under the VERSION (first drop down on top)
set it to FLASH 5 PLAYER, than you should be able to export.

No urami, that isn't the answer. It works, but only because it does more than
publish back. It is like saying "You have a hang-nail, cut off your finger,
then you won't have a hang-nail anymore." Well, maybe not that drastic.

But here is the first step to try. Go to File ?> Publish Settings ?> Flash and
then uncheck "Compress movie." Now try, it should work.

Publishing to earlier versions of the player works, but that is because the
compressed movie format wasn't available. I wouldn't necessarily throw out the
baby with the bathwater.

There may be other things that do require you to publish to earlier versions,
but I've always found that the compression is the problem.

I think it is just a language thing. I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I just
happened to have a couple of bad hangnails so that popped into my head and the
baby with the bathwater is a common English saying.

Actually I gave an exact precise answer to the question. And my answer didn't
include erroneous information. I'm just suggesting that the easiest, least
likely to affect anything else solution might be the best solution.

You are correct about not being able to get complex actionscript to work, but
that wasn't the OP question. As for earlier versions of Flash having to be set
to earlier versions I don't remember, but AFAIK the only problem in MX and MX04
is the compress setting. There may still be compatibility issues, but I haven't
seen them.

I can't really understands what is that you try to say because down saving isn't
really compatible to cutting fingers but maybe it's your thing, as not native English speaking
person I just don't get.
The bottom line is, no matter what you use in flash it isn't supported in QT movie anyway,
beside the very basic actions so whether you down save or remove compression it makes no difference.
You won't get MX 2004 action script to work only because you removed compression, so that's one way
or another , not cutting finger kind of ideology but different ways of doing same thing.
You on the other hand choose to be sarcastic instead of providing direct answer / suggestion.

[quoted text, click to view]

Again, kind of exaggerated, I don't get you, not sure whether you being sarcastic or just ...
whatever is it.

[quoted text, click to view]

The compression came with MX and MX 2004, any older flash always had to set version lower in order
to export to QT. Whether was it flash 4 or 5 due to lack of compatibilities.
