I have a logo I'd like to ptu an animation layer on it where it simulates light
shining a knife blade. I'd like to do this over a logo. I created a white/grey
radial gradient and set it at an opacity and tweened it over the logo but it
didn't really give me the effect I was looking for. Any other ideas on how to
do this?

I've seen this animation done frequently in flash sorry I can't describe it
better.

This seems very similar to something I'm trying to do. By any chance do you
have a project file you could post as an example? I'm very new to Flash and
not exactly sure how to go about what you're saying.

Since the original sword image has a very bright surface, the highlight animated effect was not easy
to see - so i simply darkened it in flash with a shape overlay.
The effect is a simple motion tweened gradient symbol that is masked to show only on the surface of
the original sword.
I simply used the rectangle tool to make shapes on a layer over the sword and the selection tool to
fine tune the points to match the sword surface and then convert this layer to a mask layer.
