I just got a weird message on my swf file which is embedded on an html page.
It has "file expired" on there and won't play the swf file? any reason why
this happened? It's been playing fine and this morning i visited the page
and i get that message. thanks for any help

Are you using a template or something you got from someone else?
Sounds like they have a time limit built into it. (if the message is
coming from the Flash and not from the server)

It's just a plain swf file. There's no template involve in the swf/fla
file. All of my other pages work fine with the swf file except two which
one I fixed. I exported the swf file again and changed the name then
uploaded it. But I haven't on the other page because I want to know why
it's happening. Have you ever seen this?

No, I haven't seen that but it sounds like a server error. Is it a
server message?

Actually I'm noticing as well that my swf file on my end shows it's expired.
But when I grab it from the original file and export it works again? weird?

interesting. Althoug the swf file was working well after 24 hours.
Probably a week or so. Does the Flash Devloper edition have that type of
settings where you can time it out? Although this was done in flash mx pro

SWF files created from Macromedia's Flex Developer edition by default have a
lifetime of 24 hours, after which they expire. Any swfs created need to be
refreshed from the server as the cached version times out.

There is no such thing as expiring SWF file. Imagine someone says that JPG expired,
pretty much the same.
The file can have a code which will prevent it from running but such things are extremely easy to
overcome. Anyhow, it has to be done within the file, they don't just expire by themselves.

Either you upload it in wrong place and simply the file is not where it should, or uploaded
it in ASCII instead of binary or it get damaged and it's now messed up.
Provide the url so we can check.

Check for memory leaks. Monitor how much ram the file is using over
time. If it increases, that means that there is a memory leak.
(grabs memory when it needs it, but doesn't give it back when it's
done with it). If you do have a memory leak and can't fix it, you may
need to force a re-load every X number of days.

Rob, did you found out why your swf stopped (expired) ?

I have one that must run 24/7 and for no apparent reason (i mean no server
error, no flash error no nothing) just stops working after a period of time
(like a month or so)...

Anybody who has a clue....
