flash (macromedia): I was just thinking of this today. (And I'm just revisiting Flash after several
years hiatus, so bear with me here.)

It's possible to have one symbol representing an animated link or button in
the library. Multiple copies of that button could be placed on stage and their
associated text and actions could be set programatically.

How many people do this? Does this make sense? Or do you just duplicate the
symbol and reset the text and place THOSE symbols on the stage. (And if "it
depends", then what does it depend on?)

Most of the time I use mc's to make buttons. Then again, whenever I use the
button symbol I look at which kind of menu is required. With a menu that
contains a lot of items it is better, according to me, to set it up
programatically. If the menu, on the other hand, only has 2 or 3 items I use
the 'copy system'

I'd either set it programmatically or just have empty button and lay the
text on top of it within the layout if viable... I'd almost never really dup
the clip just to alter the text or icon of a button (unless there's like 3-4
buttons in the entire project, overlay doesn't work and I'm on a tight
deadline)
