flash (macromedia):
1. Size only matters to the bandwidth consumed and not necessarily to speed.
In otherwords, the frames are streamed and so 30K does not necessarily mean
waiting for 30 k to see the movie to start. Use Control Test Movie, View
Bandwidth Profiler, Select a Download Speed and Then select Simulate
Download.

2. However is size is a factor in reducing server load and consumption of
your transfer allowance, then you should produce a size report. You see this
in Publish Setting under the Flash tab. It generates a text file and when
using Control Test Movie provides a reduced version. This will help pinpoint
the bigger items which usually are:

Downloading Font Outlines
Bitmaps
Sound
Lots of keyframes (each has an overhead) versus more tweening.

is there any way to optimize a flash file to reduce it's size? I have a
small
animation banner that is around 30k now, but needs to be down to 12k to meet
the standards set by the site we are uploading to.

thanks,

And if you used Flash UI or any components they make it bigger.
