There are a couple ways to do this. You could use an animated mask over the
bitmap. Otherwise, in order to erase the image you will need to break the
image apart.

Here is an example of using animated masks:

try this:

silimar techniques - you could use an animated mask or break apart the bitmap and erase little bits
at a time - i would go with the mask of you want the smallest file size.

Hi. Really basic question...I'm using Studio 8 (Flash 8) and I have
converted a bitmap to a symbol so I can animate it.
I want to, stage by stage, delete little sections of the bitmap, then to
reverse this sequence to give the impression that the image is "growing", as
it were, but stupid Flash won't let me use the eraser tool on the symbol!
Surely I don't have to create a seperate bitmap image of every stage and
then import ALL of that into Flash library, do I? If so, then I'm going to
go back to animated gifs! :o))

Hope someone can point me in the right direction because the only help in
the manual is the "bouncing tyre" animation and that is no help at all.

Thanks
nath.
