flash (macromedia) : Problem with downloading flash player

Macromedia is now called Adobe flash player and its version is V9.0
You can try to download it from adobe.com but not from the pop-up
window. cuz it is gonna to open a .msi file which is sensitive for
microsoft windows.
so you need to download adobe flash player from the website. It can play
flash and flash video.
but it is not a standalone flash video player ,you need to view the
flash videos in the broswer. I can provide a free one:

Please help! I have tried several times to install Macromedia Flash Player,
but after I click the install button nothing happens. I don't get the pop-up
asking for me to approve the install, and I don't get the gold bar at the top
of the browser that I would need to click to approve the install of active x
controls. I have tried everything I can think of: Disabled all firewalls,
checked the browser security settings, in addition to trying everything listed
on the Flash Player troubleshooting list. Any ideas? I don't know what to do
next.

Thanks!

I too have been trying and trying...and trying...and trying...to download the
flash player. Using Firefox (latest version), I go to the download page and
after clicking install it takes HOURS and HOURS, makes it to about 93% or so,
then just hangs there. I've tried eight or nine times with the same result.

Please tell me there's a mirror or alternate download site out there where I
can get this MASSIVE 1.3 mb file which takes so many hours to download.

Sorry for the sarcasm but I'm (understandably) frustrated with the adobe site
over this. It should be a simple matter to download this small executable and
go on about my business. The whole process should take five minutes or less.
But the download won't even complete. I can't believe I'm alone in this
situation, either.

Help!

(Thanks in advance)

Hi,
Try to use the standalone installer, you can downlaod it from here:

Hmmm - if you are experiencing extremely slow download times on 2 different sites - then it is
obviously not an adobe website issue - in fact, i have setup a few brand new machines lately and
every single one has prompted an update of the flash player for both IE and Firefox and every
install went quickly and smoothly (under 15 seconds).
I was actually hoping to see the install issues that get posted here by some users but never did. So
don't blame adobe until you do enough tests to verify the cause of your slow download times.

What we don't know is what kind of computer you have - how old id it? have you ever cleaned out your
cache? what kind of connection do you have? etc....

No disrespect taken and thank you for clarifying the issue. I access this forum via NNTP newsgroup
and i must not have downloaded enough of the thread (i didn't see any connection or CPU specs).
Also, my failure to realize both links provided were to the same site. I just checked and the link
Rafiq provided and it points to here:

http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/Adobe_Macromedia_Flash_Player/4-500-1.html

So that made me realize you had connection issues with 2 different websites. So you have no issues
with download speeds for any other file anwhere else but only dreadfully slow download speeds for
the flash player no matter where it is being downloaded from?

I have similar specs and have no issues with the speed of adobe's site and specifically the Flash
download page. I know this doesn't narrow it down for you and yes, there is way too many users
complaining about player installation - I think I am just frustrated and curious myself because it
seems like a huge issue yet I have yet to experience a hint of what everyone is complaining about -
even with similar specs (holy run-on scentence batman!).
It is hard to troubleshoot an issue that I simply cannot reproduce on any machine with any browser
and various OSs.

I just tried downloading from both sites and it downloaded instantly - in fact i never even saw a
progress bar. Do you have any kind of firewall or security settings anywhere that might be
preventing an EXE from being downloaded? Sorry if you already mentioned this or not - i have tried
downloading all replies to this thread and afaik i have them all.

sorry for the confusion.

Thanks Rafiq. I'm giving that a try now but it is also extremely slow. It's
been 30 minutes and the download is stuck at 38%. The link you gave me still
points back to fpdownload.macromedia.com to get the file. That's where the
problem is.

Is there a place to download this thing that doesn't involve
"fpdownload.macromedia.com"? Every download attempt from that site takes hours
and hours and still hangs, never completes. I've tried this from several
different systems, locations, even browsers.

This has gotten past ridiculous at this point. Days of attempts to download a
stupid 1.3mb file. Simply unbelievable.

Is there another download option other than the macromedia/adobe site?

No offense intended here, but please read my previous posts. I tried the
download from several different systems, different locations, same result.
And sorry, but it IS OBVIOUSLY an adobe problem. If you carefully read the
post, it said "The link you gave me still points back to
fpdownload.macromedia.com to get the file. That's where the problem is."
Therefore, it is NOT two different sites, it's fpdownload.macromedia.com in
each case. So please don't tell me not to blame Adobe until I've done enough
tests. I've done the tests. I've checked the other forums. This is a
pervasive problem that Adobe has not corrected.

As for my computer speed, okay, I'll humor you once more... the latest attempt
at downloading the MASSIVE 1.3mb file (which has been hung at 94% for five
hours, after taking four hours to get that far) are being done on a 3.4GHz Dell
Dimension XPS Gen4 machine with 2GB memory. My connection is cable broadband,
5MB/sec. I can download from Microsoft, from IBM, all the usual places I go,
no problem. Adobe is a frickin' nightmare.

I mean no disrespect Chris. I'm a software architect with 20 years
experience, ten of that in ecommerce and I do know my stuff and have done the
work--all of which continues to point to fpdownload.macromedia.com being
agonizingly slow. But don't just take my word, go search the other forums and
posts. This is not one person's problem.

I'm shutting down the latest download. I'll try to find a friend that can
email me the stupid thing.

Adobe--please do something about this!!

Hi,
I have tried to download the Player from both Adobe site and the site I gave
to you and it works great (I am using an older machine and less bandwidht speed
than yours). And regarding the other Flash Player cpmplains, it does not
necessary it is the same as yours, because it is vary depending on the others
machine, knowledge and type of problem.

please check it on another machine and throught other broadband connection and
let us know.

I'm having the same problem as well; the funny thing is that I just downloaded
a 465MB earlier that day which ended up taking less time then the amount of
time it takes to download the 1MB adobe flash player file.

The alternative site that was linked to earlier in this thread links to the
file which is still hosted by fpdownload.macromedia.com (same as the original).
Funny how I never had a problem downloading before Adobe took over Macromedia :/

Someone PLEASE just email me a copy so I don't have to rely on the amazing
Adobe servers to download this huge file.

Same damn problem I was probably having...When using IE and deleting temporary
internet files it disables/corrupts/removes proper function of the adobe flash
player....You can reinstall all night long and it will claim a "successful"
installation but, it is not....YOU MUST FIRST UNINSTALL ADOBE FLASH PLAYER
USING THE ONLY TOOL THAT WILL DO THIS WHICH IS THE FLASH PLAYER UNINSTALLER
FROM THE ADOBE WEBSITE....BE SURE AND SAVE IT TO YOUR DESKTOP BECAUSE YOU WILL
BE USING IT FOREVER.....Once you have used the uninstaller program you can then
successfully and truthfully download the latest adobe flash
player..............

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

Further description of the problem: When you clean out your temporary files
and/or temporary objects some critical part of the Flash9 goes with it and your
flash will NOT operate...you can try and reinstall it all night long...your
dead...nothing....you must FIRST GO TO THE ADOBE UNINSTALLER (hyperlink shown
above) and run that program to uninstall COMPLETELY the flash9....Having done
that, you can now install the flash and this time it will take......

Another answer in addition to the one described above is to upgrade your IE to
IE7. This seems to eliminate the problem concerning the functionality of the
Flash9 and PC maintenance?.keep your fingers crossed.

Let me know the results???..

I'm getting the same problem.

I'm staring at Netscape 7.2 running on windows xp pro, connected to a linksys
etherfast router, connected to cable broadband....

and I'm downloading Flash Player 9 at a blazing 0.6kb/s .

Never had this problem when Macro was running the show, what's up?

Plus you're keeping me from adultswim; this could make me angry.

You don't want to see me when I'm angry. D:<

I'm having an installation issue, but I think it may be related to the ActiveX,
or some security issue. I have Win XP SP2. My main user account (an
Administrator) can run flash player, and view web content, no problem. Another
user account, also an Administrator, when I navigate to a web site with flash
player content, keeps telling me I need to install the latest Adobe flash
player. I go through this, and sometimes it comes up and says it is installed.
However, even after closing IE 6 browser windows, rebooting the computer, the
web content will not play. It keeps saying I need to install flash player.

I've tried uninstalling the flash player, and reinstalling. I even tried the
stand-alone flash uninstaller. The secondary login user on Win XP still can't
use flash player. The strange this is though that when I navigate to the Adobe
site to check my installation it will usually say the latest player is
installed. Sometimes the animation on the page will run as well. But other
web content doesn't work. (When I install from the Adobe site, I have to click
to enable the ActiveX control, then later, click on the security pop-up to
install flash player, the next page will usually NOT show the animation telling
me the flash player is running).

Like I said, my main user account runs fine. So I know this is either some
security issue, or an ActiveX issue, or a broken installation. What do I look
for? I've checked Internet settings, and they are the same for both accounts.
Note that this occurred recently when flash player was updated.

Thanks
