Not sure how it might be accomplished with a psd file, but you can
certainly import fireworks file with bitmap and vector data into flash. -Tom

I have done this, so I KNOW it is possible (or else by some twist of fate I
achieved the impossible).... but now whenever I try to import a bitmap graphic
with a clipping path into Flash, it won't allow me.

A workaround using a PSD file would be to make a selection from the clipping
path. Then select inverse and delete. This will remove the content outside of
the clipping path. Then save the file as a gif or png file which allows for
transparent backgrounds. There is no reason for using a clipping path, that is
for printing.
