I discovered the hard way that MPEG video is muxed (or multiplexed). This
means the audio and video are mixed in one track. Quicktime and the Flash
Encoder ignore the audio with muxed files. Apparently it is just too much to
ask of large software companies to handle this frequent problem. So smaller
companies have stepped in.

In the past I've used the free Riva FLV Encoder to encode these files using a
PC. See: http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?encoder&L=3 It works fairly well.

Today I found MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. There are Mac and PC versions.
It is also free and coverts MPEG video into a variety of file formats. Open
your MPEG file with it and then Export it to Quicktime. Then use your favorite
FLV encoder to make the quicktime version into a FLV file. I tested it with a
6 minute video and it worked great.
See: http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/mpegstreamclip.html

Soon you'll no longer be muxed up. (:D Sorry I couldn't resist)

PS: Special thanks to RIVA and Squared 5.
