flash (macromedia):
thats a loaded question - yes you can alter a template in any way you see fit - but it will require
knowledge of how to use flash and that can be achieved by starting with the help docs and a simple
flash doc that you create and use to learn the basics - really really difficult for us to know how
the template was built and if you would even understand the terminlogy used to explain the process
specific to your template - terms like symbols, movie clips, actionscript, nesting, tweens,
etc....if you want, upload or provide the template so we can at least see how it was built - but
overall if you are going to edit this FLA, you should try and learn some flash basics first - it
will be easier in the long run.
what is your skill level with flash right now?

"run smoothly" i am not sure i understand - adding layers wont cause an already "smooth" movie to
not perform well on playback - To add a layer just click the "Add New Layer" button in the timeline
panel or Insert > Timeline > Layer.
What you add to those layers/your movie may or may not affect the playback performance. what are you
actually adding to the movie?

contact forms typically use some database script to send the information to an email adress -
usually CGI or PHP. did the template/site come with a PHP or CGI script/file?
As for the rollOver/on release - where do you want it to go when mouse is pressed? to another frame
in the timeline? load an external SWF? call the getURL function to load a new page and site?

Hi guys, I bought a flash template and was wondering if it is possible to add
more frames(with movie clips etc) of my own into its timeline and have the
whole thing run smoothly? . If so, how is it possible to do so? Anyone plz?
Thanx.
Hi Chris (mudbubble), thanx for your reply. Sorry, I just have to correct
myself alittle. It was a complete site that I bought not template. I just
have to make a few alterations to the site for it to suit my purposes. My
knowledge of flash is very basic but Im learning. Im getting my way round
alittle but not far enough. The site has about 23 layers in the timeline and I
need to add a few more and have it run smoothly. Something I wish I had an
idea of how to do. Can you give me a rough idea to grasp on. Thnx.
Hi again. The site is lacking a contact form and a terms of service.
Although the terms of service is written on the site and has a mouse over
effect , it just goes no where when the mouse is pressed. These are what I
want to add. :-)
just place the terms of use on the desired frame - add a stop action to this frame - on your button
have a gotoAndStop command that targets the frame the terms of use are on.
i made a simple sample for you:

Hi Chris, in reply to yesterdays question, I want to add the terms of use into
another frame in the same timeline. Then to add the script needed for when
a person clicks on the terms of use ( which is a button instance) for the terms
of use to appear and so the person can read what ever is written in it. I
have a tutorial, and am going by it but Im missing something somewhere. I dont
know what? Any help is big help. Thanx
Hi Chris, thanks for the example, I think its really going to help a dummy
like me. I'll drive you crazy a little longer with another question then
hopefully I wont have to bug you any more.
The time line has round about 288 frames and like I said about 23 layers. You
said: "just place the terms of use on the desired frame ". Do I place the
terms of use on a new frame, for example frame 299? Or do I place it on frame
1 of a new layer? All the rest is pretty clear. Ta
:D
Wolf van Ween, thanx for the tip. What you described there sure does sound
like my site ie: having pages appear then disappear only to have another one
appear after clicking a button. What I really need though is for my question
to be answered and Im sure Ill get back on the right track.

No, I didn't say that. That was Chris :-)
You want to put your "terms of use" on new frames, most probably more than 1.
If you want to use a different layer, you can do that, but it's not essential.
First you need to try to understand the flow of execution (where is the main
menu page, where are the jumps, where do the pages start and end).
My tip is to check how the template pages are constructed, with their intro
and outro, copy the page that is closest in design to what you need for the
"terms of use" and paste it at the end of the last timeline frame.
When I say copy and paste, I mean all the frames that belong to the page
(let's say 50 frames) across all 23 layers.
Once you have your copy, you need to adjust the button that links to it, and
get the execution flow right.
Good luck
Wolf
PS: arty, I realize that you don't understand yet the basics of layers and
frames. I think you might find it useful to go through a few tutorials first,
before you attempt to change anything in the template. Or at least always only
work from a copy.
