flash (macromedia):
I built a site with flash and I can view it just fine...Some people can view it
fine but some people are getting this pop up message that says something like
Open, Save, or cancel and when they click to open the site it says IE can't
find site... is this a problem with the site I've created, Macromedia, or IE?
Please someone help...

It looks OK too me, but I didn?t do a lot of testing.

It could be that the web severs mime-type settings are not correct for
flash/swf that could lead to a behavior like that (at least the part where
you?re asked what to do next.)

If you can be more specific about circumstances in which the problem occurs
(OS, Browser etc.) maybe someone can help

Something else: It sounds a lot like Louis Armstrong to me, are you sure about
rights?

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge
href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME

It">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIME

It</a> is complicated in a way, and most likely if you don't know about it you
won't be able to fix it if broken.

Basicly it is some additional information that is transmitted wit the file
from the web-server to the browser. The browser uses that information to decide
what to do with the incoming data (in our case it would be loading the
player/control and let it handle the data).

The Webserver has some kind of table where it looks up what mime type to send
with what file. It might be that there is not mime-type defined for swf on the
server, and therefore a browser reling on that info wont know what to do with
the data and starts asking silly questions.

I'm not sure if that is the case in you problem, it's just an educated guess,
and I like to show off how much I learnd about all that web stuff in all those
years ;-)

If it wasn't that late I could just try to find out if the server sends teh
right mime-type

But it's late, and as it works fine with me even in IE I'm just not too
convinced that this is a serious problem...

OK, I checked, it seems to be alright with the mime type (would have been
easier to check first I guess.)

also works on a second machine on IE.

So more deatails like OS, IE version, Player Version etc.

BTW u can mail me (screens) at markusmathieu(at)mac(dot)com

well, the problem is some of my client who who to look at my phots can't and I
amy lose there business so yes, I think it is serious... I just can't figure
out if I should pay to contact Macromedia or try contacting my web server.

my probleme here is that I can't reproduce the problem, so it is like fishing
in very muddy waters.

It works on windows IE7 and 6, on Opera and firefox, also on Mac Safari...

to make sure that it isn't connect to the server you could make a very simple
swf, and load it up within a test.html page going to that page could tell you
at least if it is connected to the server or not.

But pleas mail me the screens and a little mor info on the computer wher it
doesn't work.

[quoted text, click to view]

Worked fine for me using Firefox .... only comment is you might
consider a preloader screen once you have all the issues worked out.
I'd start looking at your clients machine first.
