flash (macromedia) : Can this be done?

I just want to know if this can be done. If so, I will find out how but I
don't want to search through tutorials looking for something that I cannot do.

I'm using Flash 8 Pro. I wan't to have a left sidebar menu made from Flash.
In the main content area of my page I want to have an upcoming event section
with an image and some text. When someone rolls over a menu option on the left
sidebar menu, I want that event image to change to a descriptive of what that
menu option offers, along with images and such. For each menu option rolled
over, the images will change. When the mouse is outside of the hit area of the
menu, it reverts back to the event image. Now here's the clincher. I want
them separated. I want this rollover to occur only on the home page, but I
want my flash menu to be in my Dreamweaver template so it exists on all pages.
Can I do this or do I need to keep my standard html menu on my sub pages and
create one big flash movie that replicates the menu/container look?

Thanks in advance

It probably can be done, but it would be much easier if you just made the
entire site out of Flash.

The menubar could be in all sections if the site were entirely made in Flash.
The interactions between the buttons and the content would be easier if it was
all one piece. I don't understand the need to make the content and menubar
separated?

If your issue is that other then the homepage the rest of the site is plain
html, then just make your Flash Menubar look like it is HTML. Tthen after the
user clicks on a button the site changes to HTML with the same "look and feel"
of the Flash section.

The site already exists. I wanted to change the menu to a Flash menu doing
what I had described, but not redesign the entire site. Making the home page a
Flash page is an option, but then I would have two pages to change daily
instead of one. I'll work on the idea of making the content exteranl in both
templates so I only have to change the content file, hmm, this may be to my
advantage after all!

Great idea! Thanks!
