Hello, I have flash 8 & I'm trying to make a text gradient. I have followed the
video from learnflash.com & created text without breaking it down, then created
a gradient on a layer below the text then I right click the text & click mask
but everything dissapears the text & the mask, the the icons in the 2 layers
change to the mask layers ones (greeny blue). I am following the video
correctly & the forums here say to do it the same way. Is there a setting that
needs changing in Flash 8, any help appreciated.

you did not make the text STATIC. You need to change it to static from Dynamic
and your tutorial will work just fine.
