That would depend on your knowledge of your potential users and their average
connectivity rate combined with their collective level of patience. In general,
the shorter time your audience has to wait, the better. So test, test, test of
different conneciton rates, etc. to give them the best experience possible.
Really, the question is no different from the "can i put this big honkin' JPG
on my home page?"
