flash (macromedia) : Changing colour of moving text

I know this sounds stupid, but all i want to do is have some simple text
sliding into my flash movie starting off white and changing to red. Im adding
the text to the flash file inserting 2 keyfames then on the first making the
text red and on the final keyframe making the text white. If i do the tween as
a shape the tween is broken and doesnt work and if i do it as a motion tween
the text moves but the colour doesnt fade from white to red. If i convert the
text to a movie clip and do the what i mentioned above it works. But does that
mean i can just simply gradually change the colour of text between a motion
tween without converting it to a movie clip first??

Thanks For any help Ad

[quoted text, click to view]

convert the text to symbol, TINT it instead.
To tint, select the movie clip or graphic (with text inside) and hit
CTRL F3 to open properties panel. Under color choose TINT, make it red.
