Preload external SWF's -- flash (macromedia)

I have my main website that loads and I have used load movie to bring in the
SWF file which works, but the preloader does not work. why is this? I thought
you can have preloaders inside external SWF's and use the load movie command
which shows the preloader and then loads the movie?

I have my website with links, and a container window to load external SWF's.
each link will load the movie in the emtpy container each replacing each other
with the preloader attached to the external SWF

In other words how do you preload external swf's?

No, it doesn't work that way. You'd need to have the preloader code and
display in the main swf file and you'd monitor the bytes loaded and
bytes total of the swf you're loading in.
