flash (macromedia):
I am new to video on the web. One of my web page customers has a 30 minute video of himself being interviewed on television and wants it posted to his web site. I am at a loss. It is a .vob file and I copied it and changed it to ..mpg but lost the audio. Should I be doing it in Flash. I use MX version of Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks.
Hello, a VOB file is a file that is taken off of a DVD. Your best bet to put that online is to use something like Handbrake on the orignial DVD to rip it into a QuickTime. If you only have Flash MX, then you are a bit limited as to what you can do with video, so the way to go might just be to create a pretty compressed QuickTime and post that. There is no simple answer for getting video on the web, but that should give you a place to start. - B
If you're still on MX, then for a number of reasons, you should upgrade. There have been three more versions and the latest, Flash CS3 is a big leap in a number of areas. The scripting is better, there are many more video options, including H264 playback (which enables HD quality video through flash), and the workflow with Photoshop (and fireworks too) is much better. No matter what you do, you're still going to need rip that DVD, as Flash video encoder won't be able to deal with a VOB.
Thanks again BSpero. I will upgrade and continue to look for a good tool to rip a DVD to an mpeg2, 3 or 4.
BSpero, I took your advice and went to download Handbrake but it would not setup unless I update my .NET Runtime Library from Version 1.1.4322 to Version 2.0. I "X'ed" out and deleted Handbrake .exe and documents. I know nothing about this update. Will it impact my current work which ranges from KEdit to Frontpage to Dreamweaver to Fireworks to Flash to Photo Lab x12 etc.. Thanks Joe
