flash (macromedia):
Hi,

I'm a newbie and am making an interactive project for DVDROM. I have built a
variety of interactive games in Flash, including an interactive map, some
quizzes and plan to link it all together with some text screens which also have
audio and video clips on them, and some links to pdf files (which will be on
the disc) and websites.

Before I started in Flash, I though Director would be the way to author the
project. however, as I have learned Flash along the way, I'm wondering if I
can't do it all in Flash. I am more or less a novice in both programmes, but
the things I have learned in Flash so far would lead me to believe that I might
be able to author the project completely in Flash.

For those of you who know both programmes, what benefits would there be to use
Flash completely (if possible) v. import ing the Flash files into Director as
originally planned and build the project from there?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks,

I think this is what I wanted to hear. I'm getting on pretty well with Flash
so would rather just stick with it.

The project I'm making is for a voluntary group I work with so money is pretty
sparse, and the overall project is going to be quite simple, but I really
appreciate your comments and info, - I'll let you know how I get on!

I have been using Flash to author CDs / DVDroms etc.. for over 8 years.
Flash itself is more than enough, tho with extra 3rd party tools like Jugglor
from www.flashjester.com you can do real wonders. Perhaps that's why I never moved
fully to director. I do many games as well as kiosk stuff. With the 3rd party tools
I could make custom shape for projector, especially fun for games, have joystick
interaction, transparency, skins, totally custom right click menu or no menu at all.
Basically after tuning - it does not look like flash at all :) and the features list
in Jugglor is endless, you can built some very complex interactive content with its
help.
If it's urgent or perhaps too costly for you to get it just for one project,
please feel free to ask if you need a little help, I wouldn't mind to tweak your
projector, I have the entire collection of flashjester tools.

Well, director is certainly a very powerful tool and design for multimedia. Its player
is way more stabile than Flash but it also is many times larger. Entire content made
in Director will be larger in size. The player tho, can handle videos and bitmap images
with ease, not to mention it has the 3d engine and system accessibility with the help of
Xtras. Again, with 3rd party tools I can do anything I want just with Flash so never
found director to be necessary choice but perhaps that's because my work never required
more.
