flash (macromedia):
If someone can help, I would really appreciate it. I want to duplicate a
button 2 times to put in place of 2 current buttons (because they are messed
up) but when I change the text on the copied button, it changes it on the
original. I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Please any help
as I am totally stumped and need to finish this asap. Thanks.

If the text inside your button is a movieclip, you have to duplicate that text
movieclip as well by going to your library panel, right-clicking the text
movieclip that is associated with your button and click on "Duplicate" to make
a copy of that text. Give is a new name like myText2_mc or something like
that. From this point, go into the 2nd duplicated button, and switch the text
movieclip with the myText2_mc.

Hope that helps

kdoggie, sorry, but I am still lost. Here is what I have in the library panel:
b3
b3t
which is button 3 and button 3 text.
I copied them both like you said, so I then had:
b3
b3_copy
b3t
b3t_copy
when I changed the text in the copied button, it still changed it for the
originals...I must be missing something. Sorry, I am new to flash.

check inside (b3_copy) and (b3t_copy) and see if the text is nested in a deeper
movieclip. If it is, you have to get to the movieclip that holds the original
static text box and duplicate that movieclip. Call it (b3t_copy_original) when
you duplicate it.

Once you duplicate it, go into your duplcated button (b3t) and go to the same
place, and switch that movieclip with the one you just created
(b3t_copy_original).

Hope this helps

I found one more text file that was called the same thing which was t3, so
after duplicating that one, I then had
b3
b3_copy
b3t
b3t_copy
t3
b3t_copy_original

I am not sure what you mean by "switching the movieclip" and again after
trying to change the text, it did the same with it all...
Here is the situation. I bought a premade template. 2 of the navigation
buttons are messed up (they go to far to the right when you hover the mouse
over them) but the other 4 do just right. So, I was trying to duplicate one of
the other buttons in place of those 2 that were messed up. I tried first to
figure out how to make it not go so far over, but i don't know how to do it.
It shows layers etc., for each button. You can view the template I bought here
at
http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/pr_preview.php?pr_code=Norsz5ET4K9E1F0qmvaj91
4VVq7ihg&i=12176&tab=31 Hover your mouse over the navigation and you will see
what I mean. Look at the first 2 buttons compared to the other 4...

ah, when it comes to premade templates that are bought online, they are built
in such a way that you're really not suppose to change its design. My best
advice is to email the techies who made it and see what kind of advice they
can give you bro. sorry man.

Well I was told I could edit them and I have edited them all with my own info,
I am just having trouble duplicating a button. Also, where you say sorry man,
I am a girl, LOL. My name is Dayna. I am editing this template to replace the
static version of it located at http://www.georgiavideoproductions.com
Thanks for the help...hopefully somehow I can still do this.

k-doggie, is there any way that I can send you these few files and you see if
you can duplicate it? I may be just missing something or doing something
wrong...like I said earlier, I wasn't sure what you meant on how to actually
"switch" the text.

[quoted text, click to view]

You need to make new button in the library to be able to make changes w/o
effecting other buttons. Duplicate on stage does not actually make a new
instance of a button, it just makes copy of it so any change will be
reflected throughout all the copies.
You need to make new one in library, edit, drag drop on stage.

k-doggie, I wanted to let you know that after a days work, I actually figured
this out on my own. Only I didn't duplicate the buttons, I just fixed where
the 2 buttons were moving too far to the right when selected. It took me a
while, but I figured it out. Now all I have to do is remember how to link the
buttons to my site pages and then somehow get the flash header onto my site...
