is there a way of naming different movie clips with the same name with different digits following the name.eg: block1, block2 etc...USING ACTIONSCRIPT...

do you mean movieclip symbol name or movieclip instance name?

if you attach the movieclip instance using actionscript, you can set the
instance name using actionscript

if you are trying to rename multiple movieclip symbols in library, you can use
JSFL commands.
