Could be your browser has been hijacked or somesuch--hard to guess
without more information. You could copy the actionscript from one of your
links, and post a url others can check... -Tom Unger

I'm only guessing "hijacking" from the information you have
provided--personally I've never created a flash link that sent me to an
unrelated page, so I have no experience with this issue...
As I suggested in my earlier reply, a good first step might be to let
others here test your links by posting a url. Pasting the related get url
action into a reply here so others can verify the actionscript might also
help. If you don't care to post a link to your site in a public forum, you
can upload and post a link to a simple test file which exhibits the same
issue. -Tom Unger

Dang!

Now I'm Star Wars. The weird thing is that I'm not being hijacked to some
"weird" sites. No porn, no online gambling, nothing icky.

The links that are getting hijacked are simple text links out of flash and
into a plain html page.

Where would I look for evidence of being hijacked, and how the heck do you
prevent it?

Do I yell at my server people?

Thanks for ANY info.

Please have a ridiculous amount of patience with me here.

It's amazing how things can go so horribly wrong so quickly. I'm a pretty
smart kid, but this project has got to be finished or I'm gonna throw myself
under a bus.

For those of you who design and design well, I now know why you're worth what
you're worth.

Thanks for any and all help....

Clockwise from the upper left, the four "central" links in your families
area go to:
http://site/faq.html
http://site/preventingfilmdamage.html
http://site/zottmann.html
http://site/funlinks.html
Of course, all bring up a 404 error--file not found, because they are not
valid urls... You should make the paths relative to the html page the swf is
embedded in, or use the full url.
I have no idea why you are being redirected to other domains instead of
seeing your server's default 404 error pages at those 4 links--must be
something specific to your system/browser.
You might also consider not using "text" links for those 4 areas--making
the 4 areas active would make them easier to select. -Tom Unger

If you try any of the links off the "Familes" page, they're all going to Starwars.com now.

It looks like I have been hijacked, but how to solve?

Any ideas?

I tried all the links on the page you suggested. They all led to "Page Not
Found", but appeared to be what you intend. I would guess your browser has
been hijacked. Go to this site and download this:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

This is a good tool. I use it often. I would also suggest
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html. It protects against
many 'wares and has some realtime protection which may help prevent further
problems.

Hi Thomas..

Okay, I think we're on to something here.

Use really short sentences as a many simple words s possible.

My entire site lives in a folder on my c drive called videoimagination. There
are separate subfolders for the flash and static page folders.

what should a "full URL" look like if it is document relative?

http://videoimagination/site/forensics.html?

You have no idea how appreciative of your help I am right now.

Namaste!

AlliCT59;
have not been able to guess at your directory structure or how the urls
are being added to the movie, so it is difficult to provide more specific
information. I think we might make better progress if you reveal what you
are currently doing. I had requested in an earlier reply, that you post the
actionscript for your get url actions, but I suspect now that you are
applying the links to your text in the flash properties inspector--in which
case a screenshot might be a good way to show us what you are doing. Also we
would need to know where the html pages you wish to load are located in
relation to the swf and "home" html page (your directory structure). I
suspect that you are working with some type of purchased flash template--is
this true? -Tom Unger

Template! Yes! (insert Psycho music here)

Yes, text links, not getURL. Yes, I know it's bad.

For example, you can get to the "families' page, but click any of the links
on that page and they just 404 on me. Hey, at least it's not Harry Potter or
Star Wars!

My site lives in a folder on my c drive called Videoimagination.

Inside that folder are subfolders:
Sources
Pages (the static html files)
Flash (the swf and .fla files)
Img
Web jpeg pics
_notes

then, in the VideoImagination folder are the index and .ss files.

The remote site only has a / as the site root directory.

So......... I highlight Understanding Videotape Formats in my Flash.

Then, in the link box enter
http://videoimagination.net/pages/videotapeformats.html

When I finish all the links, I save, and publish. I send the .html directly to
the local site and the .swf and .fla go to the flash folder.

What the bejeezus am I doing wrong?

Okay, so that may be a long list, but any ideas.

I called my ISP and they said a root directory named "/" was just fine. Should
I name my local directory "/"?

I'm really not trying to be obtuse, and I so appreciate all the help.

It doesn't seem to be a flash issue. Usually it's easy to figure out
simple errors with urls, but in your case I still cannot figure out what is
wrong.

http://videoimagination.net/pages/videotapeformats.html

The above url should work, but it brings up a 404 error. There is either an
issue with your file naming or directory structure, or you are not uploading
the pages. You mention a directory named "Pages" in your last reply, yet the
link uses "pages" (case mismatch), although it I tested the both ways and
both pages fail to load.
The only thing I can think to advise now is for you to double check all
of your page and directory names and all related links to make sure there
are no case mismatches or other issues (avoid spaces punctuation etc), and
make sure all the pages and dependent files are being uploaded to your
server using the exact same directory structure asyou have on your local
drive. Let us know if that helps. -Tom Unger

It WAS a Capital offense, so to speak.

We seemed to have fixed it.

Thank you for the great answers to questions I was asking that had nothing to
do with the problem I was having.

Everything you told me was instructional, and valuable!

Allison
