I have created an entire piece in Flash and thought I could create an FLV
player from it in the end. I don't think I can, so can I import the SWF I
created into a new project somehow with the intent of creating an FLV set-up?

You will need to export that SWF to video than import it back to convert it
to FLV. No direct way with flash itself.
