Hmmm - it's one thing to know the tools technically - another to make something cool with that
knowledge. As some golfer friends i play with always say: "It's not the arrow, it's the Indian."
Hard to say how you should learn how to design. I firmly believe you have to have the ability
naturally - and then of course training can help you improve upon that. But I would never like to
tell you spend money on books or classes when the natural ability simply is not there.
You may have a natural ability to design but the hurdle for you is getting the tools to do what you
want them to. I simply don't know which direction to point you towards.
What is it you want to design? Website? UI? Navigation stuff? Character? all of the above? My
reaction is to tell you to browse amazon or local library for books on this subject - thumb through
them and see if any call out to you as something you'd be interested in. Open yourself up to
different styles and artists - it can take 10-20 years to get to where you want to go. I myself am
not satisfyed with where I want to be skill-wise. Dont get me wrong, I like where I am but feel
there's a whole lot more for me to learn.
So, that said - how to draw/design in flash - be specific - it's too general - baby steps - what do
you want to design? Start with something specific - very specific. Find a reference photo and try
tracing it. Experiment - learn by doing - I am a big supporter of rolling up the sleeves and making
mistakes.
I hope this helps.
