flash (macromedia):
I've recently taken charge of a number of websites, one of which has a Flash
animation on the homepage.

Please take a look at: http://www.marklevinson.com/

The Flash file loads a news box in the upper left-hand corner of the stage and
populates the content from an external file containing the headline and content
variables.

The news box works perfectly for me on all the computers I have tried and in
both Firefox and IE 6 and 7. I've asked colleagues and friends to look at the
page and it's OK for them too, but staff actually at the company are reporting
that the news box doesn't work and they see a "Loading" message.

I'm baffled by this, so I'd be most grateful if fellow forum members could
take a quick look and perhaps suggest what might be at fault? I've asked
people to check which version of Flash they are using and am waiting for them
to report back.

Thank you!

the news box loads fine on Mac 10.4.9 Firefox it hangs for about 3 secs in
Safari on mac then it loads.

I would assume that it has to do with the browser it self taking some time to
call the server or the server not sending the data quickly.

but it does load on every browser on my mac, and on my windows computer as
well. it may even be a problem with the users system.

they could also be some 3rd party app on the users computer that is not
allowing Flash to send or receive data

Thank you Joshua.

Your post makes me think this might be a firewall problem, or at least some
sort of security setting that is preventing Flash requesting data from the
Internet. The server is fairly quiet and I'm not seeing any resource of
networking issues, so I don't think it's a responsiveness issue.
