flash (macromedia): Hi:

I have just installed flash and have worked throught the first tutorial.
Everything went fine until I got to the ActionScript part. It seems
overwhelming. I just want to do simple things like have a slide show play a
series of still images when my site is accessed. I guess my question would
be, can I just copy scripts from somewhere to do basic things like this
slideshow or do I have to really learn to write script. If someone could
briefly explain how this all works I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Rex

Most of us learn by studying other people's scripts. If you copy another
person's script and then modify it, you're learning by it. It's up to your own
standards of ethics whether you would use such a modified script in your
website. Though you'll find lots and lots of scripts that people willingly
share at places like flashkit.com and actionscript.org.

ActionScript does seem overwhelming at first. It certainly did for me. I got
over that by following some simple tutorials in a few basic
"Teach-Yourself-Flash" books such as the Visual Quickstart Guide. Then I read
Colin Moock's "ActionScript For Flash MX: The Definitive Guide", which is by
far the best book for learning ActionScript theory and syntax. Though you might
want to wait on that and just have fun playing with AS.
