He actually shows you how - he toggles the "Onionskin" button on and off 3 times in the video. It's
located at the bottomn of the timeline panel.

Keep in mind - this video tutorial is showing you how to do it the hard way - MUCH easier to nest
the walk cycle in a Graphic symbol and have the figure walking in place - then motion tween the
instance of the walk cycle across the stage.

It's a bit tough trying to describe what I'm trying to do, but the actual act
of doing it is probably a matter of a couple of clicks. I'm trying to make an
animation of a stick man walking. There are two layers, one is the background
layer, the other is the stick figure's layer. I want to make every single frame
on the stick figure's layer visible at all times, but just faded in the
background, such that each frame shows all previous frames. I don't know what
to call it, or how to explain it, but there is a video on youtube that involves
what I'm talking about.

See how the leg frames are constantly there, but just faded away in the
background? What is that called and how do I do it?

Thanks for your time, any help is appreciated.

Thanks for that info - that seems like a much more efficient way to do it. I'll try that out and come back here if I have any further questions.

Thanks again,

did you want the legs to appear in the movie as if they are az blury motion
behind the stick figure as he is running? because the onion skin tool will not
aqcheige that . but they way it was suggested in the second example is good,
just have to add in a could blury legs in between the the darker legs of the
moving graphic.

@Flash Actions - that's not at all what the tutorial is talking about (which is
not done particularly well either), nor is that what the OP asked. FYI - Chris
is an expert and has probably made many of the tutorials you have seen, he
knows precisely what he's talking about, and was not suggesting to try and
achieve a 'blur' at all using the onion skin tool. He was answering the OP's
question as to what this process/tool is called.

@ Freak - what for? to make a walk cycle and then import the movie into flash?
And then how would you continue with any additional animation sequences or
character interactions? Why would you feel the need to do this with such a
simple animation? um ... this is one of the things Flash is built for ...
animation.
