I know this would usually not be an issue because Flash CS3 is backwards
compatible but I have run into a problem with a 3rd party import "addon" for a
particular 3d software. Is it possible to install both Flash 8 & Flash CS3 on
the same computer without running into any known issues? (I am running OS X on
a Mac Pro)

Yes, it is possible, and works fine. Flash 8, which was produced by
Macromedia, installs in a Macromedia folder on your hard drive, where as Flash
CS3 will install in the Adobe folder on your hard drive.
