flash actionscript : Exporting to gifs

Hi all
I'm working on a simple project totally built in action script (nothing more
than some text effects and a couple of jpegs)
the problem is, it seems it is not possible to export it to gif or any other
format
while the swf works fine, if I try one of those formats I get only a white
screen
is this normal or am I missing something?

if it's not possible to do this through Flash, do you know any other way to
obtain an animated gif based on a script or something with the same effect (I
need to calculate jpegs positions and strings based on a set of parameters)

I dont think the export to gif functionality works too well. AFAIK it doesnt
take into account movieclip sub animations or scripting. You'd have to screen
cap your animation while its playing using another program.

You can make an animated gif out of a timeline animation. No A.S. or
movieclips etc.
You can get answers to stuff like that from the html manual for Flash. When
you are in Flash, press F1. Click the search tab. Enter "gif" in the
search box. Select the section called "Choosing publish settings for gif
files"
