flash actionscript: I am able to make UI components work "as advertised" in a new Flash MX 2004
file, but for some reason they do not work at all in an existing flash
tutorial where I am attempting to add them. When I insert a UI component,
all I see is a blank rectangle where the component is supposed to be. Does
anyone have any idea as to what in my existing file could be conflicting
with UI components working properly?

Thanks,

Keith

Hi,
Your UI components will appear to be in this way if your "enabled live
preview" is untick. There is several ways you can try first before deciding
whether it is a technical bug.

1) Go to View > Preview Mode> Select 'FULL'
2) Go to Control > Select 'Enabled Live Preview'

Hope this helps. =)

I really appreciate the help from the Macromedia newsgroup.
Some of you may be interested in knowing what I found. My Flash movie was
originally created in FlashMX. When I upgraded to FlashMX 2004, I opened the
FlashMX file and saved it in the FlashMX 2004 format. What I have learned is
that FlashMX 2004 UI components do not work if the movie was originally
created in FlashMX.

Good luck,

Keith

I guess this is because Flash Mx 2004 Components is actually completely re
written in lower level language while Mx compoents are actually written in
action scripts. That is why such problem exist. Sometimes I encounter such
problem too
