flash actionscript:
Hi guys, Great to be at this Forum. I can?t believe all the knowledge here.
I?ve been reading all the posts I can! One post I can not seem to find is about
Moving Clouds.I don?t mean 2D graphics moving randomly around the screen. I?m
talking about real, billowing, rolling, clouds! I found a neat link on
FlashKits site.
http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Effects/Eye_Candy/Realisti-Triqui-9954/index.php
But I cant even look at this/open it with my latest version of Flash.

Anyone know a cutting edge site with realistic moving clouds on it? All the
tutorials I get seem to be from 2002 with 2D animated fluffy images moving
randomly. : (
Thank you very much,
Steve

Somebody here has posted info on how to do fog. I can't remember who. Very
similar idea.

If you have photoshop (I'm using 7, so things may be in different places) open
up a new blank document of the size of your cloud area.

Doubleclick the background layer and click "Okay" to change its name to Layer
0. This lets it have transparency.

Press the D key to make sure you have black and white as the default colors.

Filter?>Render?>Clouds

Then double click on the layer icon (not the words) to open up the Layer Style
palette.

At the bottom are blending sliders. Take the left (dark) end of the "this
layer" slider and move it about half-way along the slider. This will give a
hard edge to your "clouds."

Then you need to split the slider to get a soft edge. Hold the alt/option key
and drag the left half of the little triangle back to the start of the slider.

Adjust the slider until you get something that looks good to you. Then close
the style dialog.

You can also open up the levels menu and make your clouds a bit more white if
you like. Or grey if they are storm clouds!

Finally Save for Web and save it as a png with Transparency.

You can then import this into Flash, put it on a layer and animate it or what
have you. You might need a couple of tries to get the right balance of
transparency, color, etc.

Don't forget that you can only overlap 10 transparent things before they will
start losing their transparency.

Don't forget that alpha and bitmap together is one of the most taxing things
for the Flash player to deal with.

Great effect if you apply it carefully and use it wisely.

Who is this Jay character and how do I talk to him? Are you Jay? Have you seen
Jay? Where does Jay hang out? lol excellent stuff over on his site. That?s
exactly what I'm talking about. Photo-Realistic clouds never done better.
Thanks for the tutorial Rothrock! very cool effect. Flash handles .png files
really well.

Sorry Kramer is Cool. I only just saw your private message.

I informed Jay of http://www.advanceflash.com/. about this thread.

You can obviously email advance Flash and get intouch with him that way.

Good Luck.
