I originally posted this by mistake in the wrong form(general) - please acc ept
my apolgies if you have also read it there.. but this is clearly the correct
place for this posting.

Exercise in:
Using ActionScript 2.0 Components with Macromedia FLASH 8 by Bob Berry et al
Tutorial in Chapter 2
I have completed the tutorial but do not get the DataGrid to fill with Gift
Ideas.

I have carefully checked all the code and believe there are no errors. Syntax
checking also shows no errors and the movie compiles to show the populated
problems_cb combo box in the correct place above an unpopulated Gift Ideas
DataGrid component that appears to have all the correct columnar layout.
Immediately below is the box for the checkout with quantity , product, price,
subtotal headings and columnar layout.

I am naturally trying to double check all the settings for the symbols and
have hit a problem.
I cannot select the combo boxes or the instances of the XML connector and
DataSet components. They appear on the side of the stage as boxes outlined in
blue without icons and when I click on them I do not get their properties .
Similarly the form layer shows the combo box or DataGrid componentsoutlined in
blue but if I click on them the background layer is selected. It looks as
though I have inadvertently configured something that inhibits the
exploration/display of these components. I have tried toggling the lock but
that seems to make no difference. Can anyone point me in the right direction
here?

Finally how can I get a textual representation of all the settings that have
been made so that I can peruse them without having to click back and forth to
see each setting? The UI interface is great for placing compoenmts on the stage
but is a real pain for documenting and checking the settings.

Thanks in advance for your help
