Well everyone reading this sure doesn't know since you neglected to
quote anything from what you are replying to... How much effort is it
to quote a little text?

:frown; I've been searching forums, newsgroups, websites, docs...etc. I cannot
find a way to make this work.

I've created an interface that uses the mx2004 list component, however I need
the first item to be selected by default.

With mx's Flist component there was the ability to setSelectedIndex(0) which
works beautifully with that component, however it appears that setSelectedIndex
was accidentally omitted from the new list's functionality...

am I overlooking something or is there a possible work around?

What on earth are you talking about? Of course it is still there.

Have you actually tried it to see if it won't work? If you limit yourself to
what is not in the documentation, you will be pretty restricted. I dragged a
list onto the stage, I populated it and I setSelectedIndex all over the
place at any index I wanted to. It works just fine. It is case sensitive now
in MX 2004 but you typed it correctly in your original post so I assumed you
had that part correctly entered.
