You betcha. FlashComm (Flash Communciation Server) is now called Flash
Media Server, but it's not your only choice. If the top of my head, I can
think of Unity ...

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "create an 'awaiting
connection'," other than that you wish to create a peer-to-peer connection.
Any of the three multiuser servers mentioned will allow you to create chat
applications, peer-to-peer games, etc. I should imagine that, while waiting
to confirm a connection with another user, the SWF could be programmed to
state "awaiting connection."

Hi, i wonder if it possible to create in flash 8 peer-to-peer connections
without depends of the FlashComm.
I'd use to create peer-2-peer application on Multiuser Server of Director.
In Director is very simple to create an application like this, because the
mus.Xtra, and i am wonder if it's something like this on flash 8.
PS: Every north could help

I'd was meanning if it possible to create an "awaitting connection" (at
least one)
directly from the .swf file,
