okay imagine I have a movie clip nested as so...

dave.drinking.message.....

If I am within the m.c. 'message' and want to find something from drinking, I
can
go..... _root.dave.drinking
However I don't want to tie myself to using _root, incase at some point my
nesting changes and therfore will ruin my code. Therefore in the same way that
you would go up a level '../' for diectories, is there a way of just going up
one level from a nested movie clip?

I thought _level0. etc might work, but this seems to act in the same way as
root. I just want to be ablle to go back a directory as it were.

I apologies if you can't understand what I have written. Thanks to any
