flash actionscript:
I know that AS is a Flash thing through and through, but I want to start to
develop in Flex and it uses AS to make things 'happen'...

Does anyone know good books to read that will teach a person AS 2 or 3
without depending on the Flash interface? How to handcode AS.

I made the mistake of trying 'from scratch' by purchasing AS for Dummies and
found it to be a complete waste of time. All GUI using the Flash MX.

Any information would be highly appreciated.

I don't get your question:

An as-flie is just a textfile, you can't password protect text-files. Just
don't give it away and lock it somwhere secure.

If you question targets towards protecting the code in an swf (binary
compiled) against retriving the original script (aka decompiling) - there are
lots of threads around here about that but; the baseline is: you can make it
harder to decompile the swf, but you can't really make it safe.
