flash actionscript: I got lots of buffering wait time, and some sound problems... I don't see
anything too unique here...

Sorry... I don't understand you. What do you mean you created a new codec?
Flash only supports the old flash 6 codec or the on2VP6 for video.

Do you mean you created a new 'player' ? Your video player looks good.
I've seen some full screen HD video in flash before ... I think it was from
the BBC. The only problem is it warms up my notebook too much. :-)

I was wondering that too. It looks very nice and clear on this Mac Pro
though

....but it's being delivered by Flash, which only has a few codecs. How
can you create a new codec?

You can create a new way of optimizing for an existing codec I suppose?

I do like the player controls you have! I'd have them appear when the
movie loads, then hides as it plays if I were you as I only discovered
the playback controls by accident :)

Hmm. Well I saw it working. It was a nice looking UI for the player. I tried a
few of the options etc. But I didn't see any performance advantage. Although
pretty much anything will take my little notebook CPU above 90... :-(

In terms of it being a "codec" well I can't believe that - does it perhaps do
something like implement a decoded frame buffer of bitmaps to improve
performance on underpowered systems or something like that (I've seen frame by
frame and reverse play etc and I assume that's how its done)... I dunno (HD
might chew up a bit of memory doing that... is there a way to just record
changed movement in a frame buffer like that - that would be "pseudo-codec" for
the buffer... e.g. to save memory...kind of like some of the motion detection
algorithms using bitmaps... hmmm). Wait and see I guess...

Loaded fine for me, no break up... but that's on a 20mbit connection and
a Mac Pro quad...

I just took a look at one of the flvs - or rather 2. Its just a regular on2vp6
file - the one I looked at has videocodecid 4 which is on2vp6. But the audio is
in a separate flv by itself. So the video codec is a regular flash one. Perhaps
splitting them like that makes it easier to synch if you hold a bitmap buffer
of the video? If that's what you're doing?

Ney...what are the features that make your player unique or better than others?

@Ney:
I asked for a unique feature/advantage and you gave me one:
The only thing that I can say right now is that looks and play better then
many videos out there...

Thanks and FYI I wasn't trying to find out your secrets...my experience just
didn't match dzedward's and its because my notebook is is a 3yr old 1.7Ghz
machine coming to the end of its life. The issue was related to my connection
speed as its 18Mb down . And the flv plays very well in VLC (with no dropped
frames and, of course, minus the sound). The flv (ratatouille) is well encoded,
and appears to have a variable bit rate so its not encoded using the flash
encoder (I wish I could do variable bit rate encodes!).

As for regular full motion HD over dial-up... forgive me for being
sceptical about that at this point, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong!

Your video is regular on2VP6F content so its not using a new "codec". Unless
you compress and decompress for example a video frame buffer of
bitmaps in memory then you cannot really claim to be using a new 'codec'
because that's what 'codec' means.

If you have done that then I'll say right now that its quite clever, even if
it didn't seem to help me on my machine. If you want help or advice for
re-synching the audio please feel free to ask questions. I have a couple of
ideas that may help if you haven't already tried them.

One thing I have never been able to achieve is a very accurate 'onEnterFrame'
type event for a video frame (because flv rate can be different to the swf
rate). I can 'simulate' one because I can check if the video frame has changed,
but I don't know of any native event that lets me know precisely when it does
(and I don't mean using FPS calculations and interval checks). If you or anyone
knows how to do that I'd be keen to hear about it - for something completely
unrelated to HD video I can assure you!

on my comp here at home, it plays beautifully... Excellent quality with that
huge size, and it plays flawlessly. Running Vista 3gig RAM AMD Athlon 64X2
6000+(3ghz) Wireless-N network 6719kb download 491kb upload. All I know is it
is a beautiful picture for the size of the video, and loaded extremely fast.
No complaints here.

Hi there,

Running PowerBook G4 1.5ghz 1.5GB Ram OS X 10.4 - the video runs at <1fps and
interface is extremely sluggish - so much so that it's hardly usable - have
broadband dsl connection. Sorry :sad;.
