dotnet framework : sending mail via System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient

I am able to send an thru our mail server using the old 1.1
System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail class.

When I try sending an email using the new System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient, I get
a #5.5.1 unimplemented error: Command Not Implemented

The code is nearly identical and the server is the same.

Any ideas what is different ?

also, our mail server uses qMail.

It is possible (just a guess) that .NET switched from sending HELO to
sending EHLO command and EHLO is not supported by your server.
What you can do is connect using telnet to the server and send "EHLO
blah-blah". And see whether the server supports it.
