I have created a flash file that loads an XML document from the same location
as the .swf using the XML object .load function. It works locally but when I
put it up on a server running Tomcat, the load function fails everytime. Does
anybody have any ideas why?

sounds like a crossdomain issue. search macromedia.com for
"crossdomain.xml".
