Third party software.

Not saying this one is the one to choose but it will help you in your search
to find the one best for you:

Third party software - BAH!!!

No, seriously, you don't need 3rd party software at all. As a matter of
fact,
that tends to complicate the situation when you have everything you need at
your fingertips as long as you have 2 things - Flash, and a database to work
with.

Got that?

Good, get back with me on exactly what you are wanting to do on this
database
and I think I can help out a bit. If can't help, then I can definitely
point
you in the right direction.

Now I didn't say you won't need server-side script - that depends on exactly
what you are trying to do.

What type of database are you pulling from? Is it an actual database like
Access or MySQL or is it an XML file? Are you wanting to be able to update the
database from the Flash file or is simply reading the data sufficient?

The answer is the usual I suspect. You need a web server running and a web
server script or use third party products. So if you can install a local web
server on your client machine or on the client's network you are good to go
the usual way.

But if there is another way without third party software, I am still
interested.

I am interested as well. I am attempting to connect to a mysql database and
insert as well as get data with flash via a form. Is this possible? Is
there
any code that is available that I can view for this?

Thanks

Check out a tutorial here on the Macromedia Website - Data Integration. It is
made by Phil Heinz and it is a pretty good tutorial on how retrieve, view, and
change data on an Access database via Flash.
