flash ad development:
Would some savvy user explain to me how to do this?

I made a simple animated banner ad. Specs from the publisher are to "build the
"Button Layer" into the ad and include the URL in it. Sounds easy enough, but
I'm not very experienced.... I made a layer in the background of the ad and
made it a button. In the button properties dialong box is the URL.

I'd like a viewer to be able to click on the ad at any time and link to
the client's site. The pointer only becomes available after the ad has finished
looping (3 times), but it doesn't go to the link when I click on it (should I
test it in an html page?).

I've posted the fla and recent swf onto my

password:test

Thank you for your help,

Kristy

Searching around some more, after posting, I found this very thorough tutorial
on adobe.com - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/intro_flash_pt2.html

I think I am closer now, although it's still not opening a new window and
linking to the site when I test it via file/publish html. If anyone is
interested in following my progress, and or chipping in I will post a new fla
to the site I mentioned previously.

Thanks, Kristy

I've posted an "Invisible Button" extension that adds a new command to
Flash when clicked adds an invisible button to your movie specifically
for banner ads.

You can download the final extension from Part III of the tutorial or
you can start at Part I and learn how to write the extension.

The three tutorials if you want to learn how to write extensions:

Or just download the extension if you don't:

James, thank you for your reply and good instructions, and for providing a
valuable resource to those of us (graphic designers) who know just enough to
get themselves in deep do-do. I look forward to seeing what you do with your
blog going forward and will bookmark your site!
