macromedia flash flash remoting : Need info/help on Flash Remoting install...

Hi all,

I've searched high and low for info on my situation but cannot find it
anywhere. First, i installed a trial copy of Coldfusion MX on a development
server. I have since upgraded to CFMX 6.1 via the upgrade method. From all of
the documentation i've read, i assumed that Flash Remoting was already
installed on this server. However, when i try and test for it's existance via
the URL http://[mydomainhere]/flashservices/gateway i don't get the blank
page. So i assume it's not installed. I go to Macromedia, download the Flash
Remoting for Java, install, and still no blank page upon testing the previous
URL. I don't know what to do next. Is there an issue installing this on a
trial copy of MX that has been upgraded to 6.1? Am i missing any other steps
here? Any help would be appreciated.

I get the "The page cannot be displayed" error and yes i'm using IIS on Win2k
Server. I've searched everywhere for an answer but no luck. Any ideas???

I'm not apposed to un-installing and doing a completely fresh install of 6.1.
But i shudder at the notion of having to manually re-enter all of my dsn's back
into CF Admin. Do you (or anyone reading this post) if one of the cf server
settings xml files would contain all of the dsn info. Maybe i could just
copy/paste the current dsn info into the new installed xml file without having
to re-enter every dsn by manually. Anyone??? I'll post this question on the
CF forum as well.

Thanks...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think CF Server reads the DSNs from the
local system automatically. I am almost poitive that the DSN screen will pick
up DSNs even when they are entered directly into ODBC, and that all that
happens when you do it through the admin page is that CF insert the DSN into
ODBC for you that way. So if they are already entered, and exist in ODBC, then
a re-install should pick them up automatically. You could test this by adding a
DSN thorugh ODBC, and then seeing if it shows up in the CF Admin DSN screen...

The reason I asked about IIS was not only did I have problems and have to
reinstall and use the stand alone web server built into CF just to get on with
development, but I have seen in answers to other posts and also in the
documentation that there are issues with the default CF install and IIS.
Unfortunately no one answered my post, and I just had to get on working, so I
never resolved it. I know that my hosting service for CF also offers ASP, but
they tell you in their documentation that it causes problems to run both
together. I asked about that on the forums too, but didn't get an answer either
(I am running ASP on my IIS 5.1 server). So I know that's not an answer, but
maybe it can send you looking in the right direction. If that is the case, a
reinstall may not fix the problem. One user who did get some answers to a
similar problem to mine, said he fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling both
IIS and CF. If my theory is correct, it may be that IIS still runs some
background ASP server (service?) even if you disable all of your ASP
applications (as I did to test it)... hope that helps.

I actually set up a DSN manually the other day for an asp app i'm taking over. Just looked in CF Admin and it isn't there, so i don't think that is the case.

Your right, in CF MX it doesn't work... I am almost positive it worked in 4.5
(which was still Allaire), but that doesn't help you. Sorry... I'll keep
thinking about it for you.

Do you know remoting well? I could use some help with my post "Not
Authorized?!?!" and can't seem to get an answer.
