There is a text file within the AMFPHP download that states they are
uncertain whether it is legal to use the product for commercial use and to
check with Macromedia. I can find no details about this on the Macromedia
site. Anyone explored this, please?

I don't know if Macromedia has posted an official statement.

However, Macromedia did publish an article about AMFPHP
