macromedia flash flashcom: I'm working on a project where I'd like to be able to embed a small audio/video
recorder into a web page.

Basically where a user can record a small audio/video clip and then I'd like
to be able to upload the resulting FLV to a webserver. Even audio only would
be good for now.

I've got a flash movie setup now to be able to capture the user's webcam and
microphone stuff. Its just that I don't want to have to use the Flash
Communications server to receive the file on the server-end. It just seems
like overkill, and we'd actually have to get a new server to support it.

Any ideas?

Even better, does anyone already have a little flash based video/audio
recorder ready-made?

Okay cool.

I was doing some reading at OSFlash.org (which is about as confusing a website
as they get--nobody explains what the projects ARE).

Ultimately I want the files as MP3s or whatever, so I'm thinking that Throat
may actually work for what I need. We'll see.

Did you find the VideoRecord prebuilt communication component that
comes with Flash Communication Server? You just drag and drop and it's
a complete audio/video record/playback component. It saves the files
for you on the server as .flv files. You can download these components
from the Macromedia site if you don't already have them.

This is exactly what I need to do --- record a few MP3 clips using the local
microphone, then upload or eMail them.

What's "Throat" ?

FCS seems like it's a lot of overkill for this. Is there any other relatively
simple way to do this in Flash ?

Well... if you want to use the Flashplayer as your client, you'll need to use
FCS for recording the audio. There's no way around that.

I don't know what Throat is. Perhaps krisdahl will enlighten us.
